Package

Local antivirus engine and daemon for scanning files and upload streams

Price
Free, open source
Access
None, runs locally

About

Open-source malware engine with a command-line scanner, library and daemon. Scan files, archives or uploaded bytes on your own machines after updating signatures with FreshClam. It does not provide URL reputation or complete endpoint protection; daemon access needs network isolation.

What you can do with it

  • Scan uploaded files for malware before making them available to users
  • Check directories and archives locally without uploading them to a vendor
  • Stream file bytes to a private clamd service for antivirus inspection

Get started

  1. Install ClamAV and configure FreshClam signature updates
  2. Update the virus databases before running a scan
  3. Use clamscan locally or keep the clamd socket private

Example

freshclam
clamscan --recursive ./uploads
