About

k6 is an open-source load testing tool from Grafana Labs: you script virtual users in JavaScript and run them from the CLI, in CI or on Grafana Cloud. It covers HTTP, WebSockets, gRPC and browser tests. The CLI is AGPL-3.0; the cloud service is paid above a free tier.

What you can do with it

  • Ramp up virtual users against an API and assert on p99 latency thresholds
  • Run performance tests in CI and fail the build when a threshold breaks
  • Run tests on Grafana Cloud k6, a managed performance testing service

Get started

  1. Install k6, for example with brew install k6
  2. Save the script below as script.js
  3. Run k6 run script.js

Example

import http from 'k6/http';
import { sleep } from 'k6';

export const options = {
  iterations: 10,
};

export default function () {
  http.get('https://quickpizza.grafana.com');
  sleep(1);
}
