Merchant of record for software and AI products: Polar is the legal seller, runs checkout, subscriptions and usage-based billing, and handles sales tax and VAT. The code is Apache-2.0 open source, but only Polar runs the service.

What you can do with it

Sell subscriptions, one-time products and license keys through hosted checkout
Meter events such as tokens or API calls and bill customers for usage
Offload VAT, GST and US sales tax registration, filing and remittance

Create an organization on sandbox.polar.sh
Create an organization access token in the settings
