About

Write long-running tasks in TypeScript with no timeouts and run them on Trigger.dev Cloud or your own servers. Handles queues, retries, schedules and realtime run status. Apache-2.0 licensed; self-hosting lacks warm starts and auto-scaling.

What you can do with it

  • Run long AI tasks and agent loops without serverless timeouts
  • Queue background jobs with retries and concurrency limits
  • Stream task progress and LLM output to your frontend in realtime

Get started

  1. Sign up for Trigger.dev Cloud or self-host it
  2. Run npx trigger.dev@latest init in your project
  3. Run npx trigger.dev@latest dev and trigger a task

Example

// npx trigger.dev@latest init adds the SDK; set TRIGGER_SECRET_KEY to trigger runs
import { task } from "@trigger.dev/sdk";

export const helloWorld = task({
  id: "hello-world",
  run: async (payload: { message: string }) => {
    console.log(payload.message);
  },
});

// From your backend: const handle = await helloWorld.trigger({ message: "Hello world!" });
