Distributed S3-compatible object store and file system for billions of files

About

SeaweedFS is an open-source distributed storage system. One weed binary serves an S3-compatible object store, a file system over HTTP, WebDAV and FUSE, and Iceberg tables. A small file takes one disk read, and capacity grows by adding volume servers. A paid Enterprise edition adds recovery features.

What you can do with it

  • Store and serve billions of small files such as user uploads and images
  • Run an S3-compatible endpoint with presigned URLs on your own servers
  • Mount the same files over FUSE or WebDAV and replicate them across data centers

Get started

  1. Install the weed binary or run the chrislusf/seaweedfs Docker image
  2. Start a single-node S3 store and a bucket with weed mini
  3. Point an S3 SDK or the AWS CLI at port 8333

Example

AWS_ACCESS_KEY_ID=admin AWS_SECRET_ACCESS_KEY=secret S3_BUCKET=my-bucket \
  ./weed mini -dir=./data

AWS_ACCESS_KEY_ID=admin AWS_SECRET_ACCESS_KEY=secret \
  aws --endpoint-url http://localhost:8333 s3 cp README.md s3://my-bucket/
