About

The YouTube Data API v3 reads public videos, channels, playlists and comments with an API key, and uploads or manages content with OAuth. Default quota is 10,000 units a day plus 100 searches. Captions download only for videos you can edit, and uploads from unaudited projects stay private.

What you can do with it

  • Search videos and read titles, view counts and channel details
  • Upload videos and manage playlists on a user's channel
  • Read, post and moderate comments on videos

Get started

  1. Create a Google Cloud project and enable YouTube Data API v3
  2. Create an API key, or an OAuth client for actions on a channel

Example

# Search public videos (a search uses the daily search.list quota)
curl "https://www.googleapis.com/youtube/v3/search?part=snippet&q=surfing&type=video&maxResults=5&key=$YOUTUBE_API_KEY"
# Read a video's details and statistics
curl "https://www.googleapis.com/youtube/v3/videos?part=snippet,statistics&id=Ks-_Mh1QhMc&key=$YOUTUBE_API_KEY"
