OpenStreetMap routing, isochrones and matrices with a self-hostable backend

About

openrouteservice computes OSM-based routes for cars, bikes, pedestrians, wheelchairs and heavy vehicles, plus isochrones and matrices. The hosted API uses a key and free limits; run the routing backend yourself for larger workloads. Geocoding is a separate service.

What you can do with it

  • Calculate driving, walking, cycling or wheelchair routes between coordinates
  • Find areas reachable within a travel-time budget with isochrones
  • Optimize multi-stop delivery routes (public API), or compute time-distance matrices

Get started

  1. Get a hosted API key or run the routing backend with Docker
  2. Select a travel profile and supply longitude-latitude coordinates
  3. Check hosted limits and the coverage of your OpenStreetMap data

Example

curl -H "Authorization: $ORS_API_KEY" \
  "https://api.openrouteservice.org/v2/directions/driving-car?start=8.681495,49.41461&end=8.687872,49.420318"
